HISTORY OF THE ALL AFRICA BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP

The All Africa Baptist Fellowship (AABF) is one of the six regional fellowships to be created by the Baptist World Alliance (BWA); which was established on Saturday July 10, 1982, at Brackenhurst, Nairobi, Kenya. The five regional fellowships organized earlier are the European Baptist Federation (EBF), formed on October 8, 1949; the North American Baptist Fellowship (NABF), established on March 28, 1966; the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship (CBF), set up July 1-3, 1969; the Asia Pacific Baptist Federation (APBF), founded in 1972; and The Baptist Union of Latin America (UBLA), created September 4-7, 1975.

Africans have been involved in the Baptist World Alliance from its inception even though the AABF was inaugurated not earlier than 1982. An African served as President, William R. Tolbert, Jr. of Liberia, 1960-1965. Many Africans served as Vice Presidents, for instance, A. H. King from South Africa, 1928-1934; J. T. Ayorinde of Nigeria who was elected Vice President two times, 1955-1960 and 1970-1975; Advertus A. Hoff of Liberia, 1970-1975; and Arthur Kinyanjui of Kenya, 1970-1975. Ngwedla Paul Msiza, an African from South Africa, was inaugurated President July 25, 2015 in Durban.
