a. Ministry Description
i. The Vice Chairman of AABF is to be an experienced moderator who can pastorally facilitate discussion and engagement, wisely bring clarity to and summarize the expression of various opinions, and graciously help bring consensus in discussions and agreed action.
ii. The Vice Chairman should ensure cross-representation and implementation between the Continental Leadership Council and the Trustee Committee.
iii. The Vice Chairman is to help orient new members upon request by the Continental President and to assist in effective time management and objective management, educating, and maintaining proper focus on the process of governance and the scope and limits of the respective governing bodies.
iv. The Vice Chairman must remain especially mindful of the fiduciary and legal jurisdictions of the AABF.
v. The Vice Chairman is to seek to provide personal and practical support to the Continental President.
vi. Pastoral and relational chairing (moderating) of the Trustee Committee. In the absence of, or at the discretion of the Vice Chairman, the AABF Chairman may be called upon to chair from time to time. The Chairman of the Trustee Committee shall not embody the authority of the whole Trustee Committee except as provided by the Bylaws.
vii. Supportive service as a deputy to the AABF Chairman.
viii. Collaborative work with the AABF Chairman and the AABF Executive President to help with any additional assigned responsibilities.
ix. The Trustee Committee may adopt an additional ministry description for the Trustee Committee’s Chairman. The Vice Chairman is expected to work cooperatively with the Continental President. The Vice Chairman is a volunteer and not salaried or paid by the AABF.
x. The AABF will seek to assist the Vice Chairman with any necessary expense of specific work assignments from the AABF Continental President to the extent the budget permits. Assurance of reimbursement must be obtained in advance from the AABF Continental President.
xi. Tenure of service will commence once the continental council ratifies the election and ends one year before the end of the normal Quinquennium.
b. Requirements
• The Vice Chairman must be a Pastor with a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in theology
• The Vice Chairman must be currently serving or have previously served as a Chairman or Executive President (General Secretary & CEO) or Administrative Secretary of AABF National Independent Baptist Body in good standing with the AABF.
• The Vice Chairman must have a working knowledge in English
• Applications from AABF Eastern, Southern or Western Africa Sub-region are highly considered
• The Vice Chairman must provide a letter of support from his NIBB confirming its support for him in his responsibility as AABF Vice Chairman for the duration of his term of office.
